CODE G 1099-C Discover Student loans

Hello:

 

If I received a 1099-C for a debt described as a student loan, but the event code is G, is this considered taxable income?  The loan was written off in October of last year.

it depends on why your debt was forgiven. See Can Debt Forgiveness Cause a Student Loan Tax Bomb?

Enter the 1099-C and go through the questions to be properly reported. How do I enter a 1099-C?

Your state may tax or exempt regardless of the federal so check state law as well. You can reply with the state for us to help.
