Do I have to enter values from my 1098 into Turbo Tax, If I am taking the standard deduction?

You don't have to enter your Form 1098 if you are using the standard deduction on your federal tax return.


However, in some states you might be able to use itemized deductions on your state tax return, even though you use the standard deduction on your federal tax return. If you want to do that, you have to enter your deductions, including the 1098, in the federal section of TurboTax. If you are filing in a state that allows you to itemize on the state tax return even if you use the standard deduction on your federal tax return, and you're not sure whether it would be to your advantage to do that, you should enter all your itemized deductions and let TurboTax figure out which way is best for you.
