Do I need to enter education expenses not required to be purchased from college on my taxes when I am not sure what the exact amount is?

I bought textbooks and other school-related materials but I am not sure what the exact amount paid is. I am not sure if it is required to enter this information or not

No, you are not REQUIRED to enter that info.  But you are allowed to enter that info, it you want to claim a tax benefit.  Actual proof/receipts are only needed in case of an "audit".
