Do I need to file 2019 taxes?

I want to know if I need to file my 2019 taxes. I am a full time student, but did not work in 2019. I did however receive pell grant money back from the school. I also want to know if my parents should claim me? I lived with other family while in school, and pay all of my own bills.

No, if your only income was from a pell grant then you are not required to file a tax return. If you have provided more than half of your own support during 2019, then your parents should not claim you as a dependent. Please view this TurboTax FAQ for more information about the requirements for claiming a dependent. Your parents must qualify to claim you under the qualifying child rules. It does not matter that you did not live in your parent's home for more than half the year since a child qualifies as an exception to this rule.
