If you had no income then you have no reason to file a tax return.

Q. Do I need to file taxes if I didn’t work in 2023 because I was a full time student?

A. Probably not.  But it depends on more info.

Why are you asking (what has changed from last year)?

Can you be claimed as a dependent by someone else?

How old are you?

Do you have some other income (interest, dividends, stock sale, etc).

Do your scholarship amounts (box 5 of your 1098-T) exceed you qualified expenses (tuition, fees, books and other course materials). By how much?  Room and board are not "qualified expenses"

Was there a 529/ESA plan distribution?

Are you an orphan?

How do you support yourself?

What else?
