Question

Do you still need to enter your w-2 if you no longer work a job as a full time college student?

I no longer work for a company but Turbo Tax is insisting I fill out the w-2 for last year, even though I didn't and don't work there anymore. Is there an option to leave this blank, considering I'm a full time college student who did not work last year?

Are you returning to TurboTax to file your 2022 tax return?

If you entered a W-2 for XYX Company in your 2021 tax return, an empty W-2 for XYZ Company may be found in your 2022 tax return as a convenience to you.

If you do not have a W-2 from that employer, delete the empty W-2 by following these steps:

Follow these directions.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Under Wages and Salaries, click Show more.
  • Click on Edit / Add / Revisit to the right of W-2.
  • At the screen Your W-2 info so far, click the Delete trashcan to the right of the W-2 to be removed.

Thanks for answering. Is there a way get rid of the "not started?" I didn't receive a w-2 this year, so I cannot fill this out for 2022, but it won't let me leave it blank.

Try deleting this entry,

  1. Tap Tax Tools in the left column
  2. Tap Tools
  3. Select  Delete a Form in Tools Center
  4. Scroll down to W-2 (it may say untitled) and delete
  5. Click Continue With My Return in the lower right when you are finished
