Does my daughter qualify for the American Opportunity if she received her 4 year degree in May of 2016?

Yes, she does qualify for the American Opportunity Credit for the 2016 tax return because this credit is available for the first 4 years of undergraduate study, so if this is her first bachelors degree and she meets all of the other requirements, then she can claim this credit. I just edited this answer to include that it needs to be her first bachelors degree, in order for her to be eligible.
