I only claimed the Hopewell credit for 3 years but turbo tax is saying I have claimed it for 4 years so I am not eligible. How do I change that?

Go through the education section again. Go through the entire education interview until you reach a screen titled "Your Education Expenses Summary". Click edit next to the student's name. That should take you to a screen “Here’s your Education Summary”. Click edit next to “Education Information”. You'll reach a screen to change the number of time you claimed either the Hope or the American Opportunity Credit.

Starting with tax year 2009, the Hope credit had been supplanted by the more generous American Opportunity Tax Credit. So, it would have been over 12 years ago that you claimed the Hope Credit. Are you sure of your count.
