How can i not take the American Opportunity Tax credit on my taxes.  Turbo Tax is forcing me to use it and not other educational credits.  It says it is the best option, however, i do not want to take it since my son has not started college yet but has taken college courses while in high school this past year.  I have to include info from 1098-T so T Tax is including the AOTC on my return.  I can delete the 1098-T from my return but that is not a correct tax return.  I just want to include the 1098-t with out using the AOTC and cannot.

    Use the following steps:

    • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
    • This opens a box where you can type in “letme” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
    • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to letme
    • Click on the blue “Jump to letme” link

This will take you to the education optimizer where you can change the education credit to a different choice other than the American Opportunity Credit which TurboTax is choosing automatically for you.
