Question

FICA while on OPT, when do I start being responsible for it?

I have been in the US on F-1 visa since 2012, first for high school (2012-2014), then for college (2014-2018), and since then (2018-2020) on OPT. I'm wondering if I actually owed FICA taxes for my first two years of OPT, 2018 and 2019?

The FICA was deducted from my paycheck, and if the two years of high school count against the 5 years of exemption, then probably rightfully so, but I'd like to make sure.

You are a resident after 5 years or part years on an F-1 visa.  According to the IRS, once you become a resident, you are no longer exempt for FICA purposes.  There is  a Student FiCA exemption that you may want to review.
