Start by going to the Education section of your return using these steps:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “education” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to education
  • Click on the blue “Jump to education” link

Then, if you are not prompted to enter your 1098-T, go through the entire education expenses section of your return until you reach the screen titled “Your Education Expenses Summary”, then follow these steps:

  • Click Edit next to the student name.
  • On the screen titled “Here’s your Education Summary”, click Edit beside Tuition.
  • Enter the information from your Form 1098-T.

None of this works. The issue is with Turbotax and the form. There is a glitch. When will they fix? Cannot file until Turbotax fixes the issue.

Let's try this path:

  • Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "1098t" and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1098t
  • On the screen, Now Let's gather XYZ's Additional Education Expenses
  • Follow prompts
  • Next screen, Your Education Expenses Summary, select Edit
  • Next screen Here's Your Education Summary, under Tuition, select Edit to enter tuition information
  • See the images below.

Hi everyone,

It amazes me that TurboTax continues to provide answers to all of the threads regarding 1098T issues this year with box answers...and none of them have worked. FINALLY, I have found a solution to all of most errors that everyone has been posting! If you UPLOAD an image of you 1098-T, the software functions as it should. I have been able to get past all of the issues from $0 entries to Parent Name as dependent.

If you can try this, I encourage you to go this route. It is the only solution I have found. Man up TurboTax! Dig deeper and solve your software glitch or provide better directions.

Luck everyone!
