For the dependent credit and education credit (lifetime learning), am I limited to either one? I have both but return is picking up dependent credit only.

I have two dependents and I pay for one of my child's education expenses. On the tax return, there is only an amount in dependent credit, but when I fill out the questionnaire, it says I'm getting back credits.

Is the amount on Line 11 of your Form 1040 the same amount as your Line 12? If so, and your Line 13 equals zero, this means that while you may qualify for both of these credits, you are limited to the amount of taxes on Line 11 because these are both non-refundable credits.

For example, if you qualified for $1,000 Child and Dependent Care Credit and $1,000 for Education Credits on Line 50 of your Schedule 3, but your taxes owed on Line 11 is only $500, you would only be able to receive $500 out of the $2,000.
