Question

Has anyone had an issue entering 1098's mortgage interest but not showing a deduction, but if you enter the same info saying you don't have 1098 the interest is deducted?

This is unusual, and not consistent with how TurboTax works.  I did try it myself and did not get the same result. But you will have different numbers and conditions.

Please make a comparison of your 1040 in both cases. If you have the Desktop/CD version you can just check in FORMS.  It you have the Online version:

  1. From the main menu go to TOOLS
  2. then TAX TOOLS
  3. View my 1040.

Check the number in box 9.  This is your deduction.  Did it change?  If it did not, something else is going on.

I'm working in the deluxe online version. I went to tools, tax tools, and there wasn't an option to view my 1040.  Only this list:

Other helpful links...

  • View Tax Summary
  • Clear & Start Over
  • Delete a form
  • Save your 2019 return to your computer
  • Transfer last year's TurboTax return from your computer
  • File an extension

I tried deleting all the forms related to 1098 and re-entering the information and this did not work.  I don't know how to access my 1040 to look at line 9

Click Tax Tools

Click Tools which is in the drop down list

Click View Tax Summary on the Tools Center screen

Now look back at the left side bar under the column with the TurboTax logo, Preview my 1040 is located under 2019 TAXES.
