Are you a dependent of your parents? If you are, then education expenses can only be claimed by them. I you had scholarships in excess of tuition, then you would report that excess on your tax return.

If you are not a dependent of your parents, then you can claim your education expenses. The amount of tuition paid is reported in box 1 of form 1098-T. Scholarships and grants are in box 5.

This is how you enter your 1098-T on your tax return (or your parents' return if they claim you as a dependent):

  1. Open your tax return
  2. Click on Federal in the left panel.
  3. Click on Deductions & Credits at the top
  4. Scroll down to the Education section. Click Show more
  5. Select Start next to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)
  6. On the next page, click on Add a Student. Or if the student has already been added, click on Edit next to the name of the student. After a few screens, answer Yes on the page Did [student] get a 1098-T for the year 2019?

why do you think the amount on the 1098-T is not correct?

if you are asking where you get the 1098-T, check with your college (could be on your account on the website)
