High school age dependent took a college class with a partial scholarship

My son took a class at the local university (1098-T box 1 says $1677) but got a partial scholarship (box 5 says $1025). TurboTax is giving us the Lifetime Learning Credit on the $1677 but says he needs to file his own tax return and report the $1025. I tried to look through forms to see if that was happening automatically but can't figure it out. He is 15 and doesn't have any other income to report. How can I tell whether TurboTax is taking care of this or if I need to do anything manually?

I was expecting to claim the LLC on $1677-$1025=$652 but not to file taxes for him.

In fact, you can claim the Lifetime Learning credit for your son on $1,677.

Then, in principle, your son has to report his scholarship as taxable. However, as he has no other income, his scholarship is under $12,200 and he is not required to file a tax return.

Thank you so much! That makes sense and matches what TurboTax did automatically but clarifies why.
