Question

How can I get the EIN or Tax ID number of a Foreign University which is eligible for FAFSA and has a Federal school code?

My wife studies in the University of London - London School of Econ's distant learning program. We paid tuition in 2018. The University is eligible for FAFSA and has the following school code: G06693. However, the University did not send us a 1098-T. For tax filing purposes, I entered our tuition expenses but the IRS requires the University's EIN # which usually comes in the 1098-T. So how or where can I obtain that - and if the school does not have an EIN number, then what is the protocol?

You actually do not need EIN/Tax ID to enter you education expenses from a FAFSA eligible foreign institution.

When you get to the 1098-T entry, you can say that you don't have a 1098-T and there is an exception. The program will then let you enter the expenses without the form. And, you will not need an EIN.

We need to EIN number to get the American Opportunity Credit. Without the EIN number, we do not get that so the refund is lower.
