How do I claim tuition and education expenses as an International student who do not receive a form 1098t?

Unless you can claim an exception, you won't be able to file without a 1098-T. When you report your educational expense, the first question will ask:

  1.  Did you get a 1098-T for the year 2020? You will say no.
  2. Next screen will say OK, let's see if you qualify for an exception
  3. Here if you qualify for the exception, you can check that you qualify. I have included a screenshot that outlines the qualifications and this is the screen you will see in your return.
