How do I deduct school taxes

School taxes that are part of your property tax , are deduced as property tax.  It's an itemized deduction.

In TurboTax (TT), enter at:

Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version)

Deductions & Credits

-Scroll down to:

-Your Home

 -Property taxes

If you live in a state with school district income tax (SDIT), it's deducted as state and local income tax.  Also, an itemized deduction. If SDIT tax is withheld from your pay, TurboTax will automatically pick that up from box 19 of your W-2.

Deductions & Credits

-Scroll down to:

--Estimates & other taxes paid

   -Estimates

     - On the next screen choose Local estimated taxes for 2024

        -on the next screen click YES

           -on the next screen, on the locality pull down list, scroll down to School District tax
