How do I determine how much each scholarship/ grant paid towards my tuition? (Box 5 of the 1098-T form)

Unless the scholarship/grant was specifically earmarked for room and board or other nonqualified expenses, all of it is considered to be towards tuition.

If your tuition was $20,000 and your scholarships total $10,000 then all of that is allocated towards tuition. If your scholarships total  $25,000, then some of the scholarship was used for nonqualified expenses, and would be taxable.
