If your taxable scholarship information was not reported on Form 1098-T you can follow the steps below to enter it into TurboTax:

  1. Log in and open your return
  2. Click the Federal tab from the right side of the screen
  3. Click Wages & Income
  4. Scroll down and click Show More beside Less Common Income
  5. Click Start beside Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
  6. Select Yes to "Did you receive any other wages?"
  7. On the next screen, select Other Reportable Income
  8. Enter the description and amount of scholarship income

Don't do it that way, particularly if you are claimed as a dependent by someone else.  That puts the income on line 8 of Schedule 1. You want it on line 1 of form 1040 where it will be classified as earned income for purposes of calculating your Standard deduction (it is not earned income for any other purpose).

Instead,  In TurboTax (TT), enter at:

Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version)

Deductions & Credits (NOT INCOME)**

“I’ll choose what I want to work on” button

-Scroll down to:

--Education

  --Education Expenses

After answering that you didn't get a 1098-T, the interview will eventually  allow you to enter your scholarship amount.

** You can enter in the income section with desktop software (I haven't verified if it can be done  online), but not  as described in the other reply.

In TurboTax (TT), enter at:
- Federal Taxes tab (Personal in  Home & Business)

 - Wages & Income

Scroll down to:

-Less Common Income

-Click "Visit All". You'll eventually reach a screen, where TT will specifically ask you to enter the scholarship amount.
