How exact do my reported textbook expenses need to be? I do not know an exact number, but I could give an estimate?

I have found receipts for some textbooks/materials, but there are others that I do not have the payment information for, but I can remember a ballpark estimate of what they cost. Will that be ok?

Simple answer: yes.  At least for filing.  If you get audited, it won't be good enough.  

Nobody gets audited over book costs.
