The university only listed grants on the 1098-T, and billed for 2018 tuition later. How to report this?
You can add those expenses if they were actually paid in 2018 but are not on your Form 1098-T by following the directions below:
- Open (continue) your return, if you're not already in it.
- In TurboTax, select and search for 1098T and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
- Answer any education questions that pop up (enrollment status, name of school, and so forth).
- If you land on the Education Expenses Summary screen, select Edit next to the student in question, then edit the tuition item.
- At the Did you or your dependent(s) get a 1098-T? screen, answer Yes and continue.
- After you enter your Form 1098-T, it will ask you if you have any expenses not on a Form 1098-T. You can enter that then.
