Question

I already entered my 1098-E information and now there is a section in the state section about Student Loan Credit - should I reenter the amount listed on my 1098-E here?

Your state return should have imported the information from the federal, so if they already have it, it should show there.  However, all state returns are different.  I would recommend to select to view/print the returns before you file and be sure it is correct on the forms.   If you would like to reply with which state has the question, we can better assist.

To confirm credits to a particular state while you are still working on the return, you can view a Tax Summary by clicking on Tax Tools, on the left menu

  • Select Tools
  • Then select View Tax Summary, first on the list under Helpful Links.  This will show basic information about the return.
  • At the top it will list Tax Summary for federal or the name of the state, if it is a state Tax Summary
On the left you can select the summary for the state you wish to verify the credit

The example below is for Virginia but all of the states have the same format.
