Question

I am a full time student. I received support from my parents to make up for what student loans did not cover. It was 11,916. How do I claim that?

Are you claimed as a dependent by your parents? If you are claimed by them, they can claim a credit for any qualified education expenses not paid for by scholarships on their tax return. If you are not claimed as a dependent, you can claim the qualified expenses not paid for by scholarships on your tax return for a credit. Enter your 1098-T and answer all the followup questions.

The support your parents gave you is not counted as income.  You do not have to claim that.  It is either considered a gift or if they are claiming you, it is just support of a dependent.
