I am a student at an eligible foreign university. I pay the rate of native students rather than of international students. Would I still be eligible for a deduction?

Hello,

I am also a graduate student at an eligible foreign university. However, I am paying the rate of students in that country rather than the rate for international students due to a special visa. Would my tuition still be eligible for a deduction?

Thank you!

Yes, as long as you are attending an eligible educational institution, your tuition is a Qualified Educational Expense, and therefore deductible

To enter educational expenses:

·        Type in 1098-t in the search box, top right of your screen, then click the magnifying glass

·        Click the jump to 1098-t link in the search results

·        Follow to prompts and online instructions
