Solved

I am an unemployed college student who no longer qualifies as a dependent on my parent's tax return. Since I do not work and only attend school, do I need to file taxes?

If you can claim yourself this year and are not employed there is no requirement to file a tax return.  However, you mentioned that you are a student, so if you have qualified education expenses, you may want to fill out a tax return and see if you qualify for the refundable credit portion of the American Opportunity Credit which is $1,000 for 2016.
