I am confused by 1098

Box 1 has an amount.  Under that box is a tab that says 'this is not what I paid to this school' Most of my tuition is paid by scholarships.  Do I enter the scholarship amount in the box that pops up when I click this is not what I paid to this school? or should I not check this box?

No, you would only use that if your records show your total tuition and fees was a different amount than what shows in box 1 of your 1098-T.

 

The amount of your scholarships should be in box 5. 

 

If you received even more than what is listed in box 5, there will be an opportunity to list additional scholarships later in the section.
