I came to Graduate School in 2019 and paid > USD 50,000 in tuition fees. I did not file my taxes for that year because I didn't earn anything. Can I now earn credit?

No. There is no refundable credit for grad students.
There's a new urban myth among college students that says they can get a $1000 from the government just for filing a tax form. That credit is only for undergrads and even most of them aren't eligible, on a technicality It is usually best if the parent claims that credit.
