Question

I cannot continue my Federal Taxes (QTP)

So I am a Grad Student with a 529 College Savings Account, and I already entered in my 1099Q form under my income. After I finished up with my W-2s and my credits, I am approached by a page stating: "Other Income Statement: Qualified tuition program distributions - Taxpayer - You can't file just yet due to a recent law passed by Congress". And it's telling me to review my distributions which I had already entered, and I checked that they are correct. What Law?! Why can't I submit my taxes now, when I already have all of my documents ready?

Is anyone else experiencing this, because I would love an explanation. Also what did Congress even do?

I have been very irritated waiting for the 1099Q issue to get cleared up.  I took a small non-qualified distribution from my Education Savings plan and while everything else was good to, TT kept holding me up as I wait for thier forms to update so they could tax me like $11?!?  I said enough of this!  I just filed my taxes with Tax Slayer... fast, easy and CHEAPER than TT!  Good luck.

I am having the same problem.  Called TT this morning.  Rep was unaware of the problem and could not find any information about it.  She created a ticket for someone to look into it....

It would be completely shocking to to find out TT was not aware of this issue.

I hope someone from TT is reading these posts.   They need to let filers know when this will be fixed or they will continue to lose customers to Tax Slayer.    I've been seeing posts about this for weeks.   Hard to believe they didn't know.   I've been using TT for years and never seen anything like this.

I'm having the same problem, and apparently so are a lot of other people.  There's no support for this and when I called to get help all I was offered was to speak to someone for an extra $50.00.  I've already spent $120 to file what should have been a simple return.  REALLY not happy with TurboTax and Intuit.  I just want to file and get my refund.

If anyone has any updates on this I would really appreciate it.

JUST FILED! It seems to be working finally!!

As the creator of this post, I would like to mention that I successfully filed my taxes on HR Block on the 1st with absolutely no issue. I got completely tired of waiting (as my patience runs very thin).

AND, today I have received my state refund already. But obviously federal returns probably won't be issued for another few weeks.

If anyone here is still experiencing problems and still haven't filed their returns yet, I would recommend HR Block.

"Don't delay, file today!!" lol.

After calling twice and speaking to two reps who also said they were unaware of the issue,  I finally gave up. I had paid TT already, but there is a form to request a refund. You can type in "refund for online software" and I finally found it in the search area within the tax filing section.

I received a refund within 2 days,  and filed with H & R Block online.  Was $23 cheaper,  and actually somehow got back more in my refund on their site! I've loved TurboTax for years, but this year I couldn't wait any longer.

You are correct.  Taxpayers like yourself are awaiting updates from the IRS concering college fund distributions.

President Trump signed the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE) Act, which aims to improve savings habits in the United States. The legislation expands the benefits of 529 college savings plans, including adding student loan repayments and cost of apprenticeship programs as qualified expenses. The new law applies to 529 plan distributions

I was able to finally file my taxes with Turbotax over the weekend so they fixed the glitch that was there.

I cannot continue with mine either! They even took my credit card info! Said "waiting for another form for my tax situation!" I file standard deduction every year, but this year I also had a gross distribution of my 401K to figure in, that's it! Nothing complicated. Im getting frustrated not knowing where Im at in the process. I thought I was already finished!!!!

From the left menu>Federal>Wages & Income>Job (W-2) click Edit/Add will take you to the spot in TurboTax to adjust wages

Scroll down to Box 12. Underneath the first row, click on +Add another row and you can add Box 12b.

The order of entering the boxes for 12a, 12b, 12c etc does not matter. Match the capital letter code to the amount listed. For example, if it says 12a D, then enter D. Make sure the Box 12 Code D matches across to the income listed.

I tried to finish my taxes on my phone 02-13-2020. The gentleman told me he could talk me through it, but I had to be in front of a computer.  Today I have access to a computer.
