Question

I don't know why I'm not getting a refund from payments of my tuition for grad school. I was enrolled full-time and was working for a degree. I qualify for AOTC.

I graduated from undergrad school in May 2020 and started grad school in August 2020. I qualify for AOTC because I was a full-time student and I did not finish the first four years of higher education at the beginning of the tax year. Also, I have not claimed the AOTC or the former Hope credit for more than four tax years.

Your problem could be that your scholarship income is equal to or more than your education expenses. Also, if you are someone's dependent on their tax return you would not qualify.

A. Grad school tuition does not qualify.  Only the tuition for the undergrad courses, earlier in the year qualify.
