Question

I earned a BA degree in 2016 at a different college would I be ineligible to file the American Opportunity Credit, when earning a new Associates at a different college?

I'm filing for 2021 taxes, and am confused about the "Had you Earned Four Years of College Credit Before 2021?" I have earned four years at a different school for a different degree in 2016, but I am on my second semester at a new school earning a new undergraduate degree in 2021.

If you already received a BA degree you cannot get the American Opportunity Credit even if you are going to school for a different degree.  But you can try using the Lifetime Learning Credit instead.
