Question

I filed my taxes and included my 1098T from school. How do I know how much, if any, I will get back in my return?

If you have filed your return, you can print out or download a copy of your return to determine what your education credit is and how much of a refund you would be getting, if any.

You will find your Education Credit on Form 8863 if you were eligible for either the American Opportunity Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit.  This credit would be transferred to Schedule 3, line 3, or Form 1040, Line 18c.

If you were able to take the Tuition & Fees deduction instead, this would be reported on Form 8917 and then transferred to Schedule 1.  The Schedule 1 amounts are then picked up on your Form 1040 under line 8a as an adjustment to your income.

Please see the following for more information on the education credits available and their limits.

Okay I did the AOTC and chose the credit. I notice though that on my 1040, there is nothing full in the appropriate line. So Idk if the form was filed with my 1040 or it it was just there. I used credit karma but might not now if this ends up being their fault.
