I go to school full time as a disabled veteran and after putting everything I've been informed "You can't claim an education tax break" why?

I am considered a FULL-TIME student. and i have paid out of pocket for many things along with the money thats gone to the school from my GI bill

A likely reason you can't qualify for an education credit is that your Tuition expense, as reported in box 1 on your 1098-T form, plus your out of pocket expenses are less than your scholarship income reported on line 5. That would mean that you didn't pay for your education expenses.

GI educational benefits are tax free.  You cannot claim that you paid out of pocket if your tax free benefits exceed your qualified expenses (tuition, fees and course materials).
