Question

I graduated on 2021, but paid tuition in full to my loan servicer on 20233. how can i claim that expense?

You can't claim a tuition credit, on your 2023 tax return, based on that.  What you (or your parents, if you were a dependent) should have done was claim a tuition credit on your 2021 tax return, based on the fact that your (borrowed) money paid tuition in 2021.  If you (or they) did not do so, you can file an amended 2021 return to do so now. 

 

The only thing you can claim, for 2023, is the student loan interest deduction.
