Question

I haven't done any tax refund in for 2019. I there a chance to also state my 1098-T document from 2019 and not only 2020?

If you are asking if Form 1098-T from 2019 can be used when filing taxes for 2020 since nothing was reported in 2019, the answer is no. If you want to include Form 1098-T from 2019, a tax return for 2019 would be needed. Only report the 2020 Form 1098-T with the 2020 tax return.

  • If you are an undergraduate student, then report Form W-2 as received by the university.

  • If you are a graduate student, please see this article: Reporting Fellowship income.

  • If you are a foreign student on the F-1 visa and have not been in the US for 5 years, then the Substantial Presence Test has not been met. You must file Form 1040NR. You cannot use TurboTax but can use our partner Sprintax site.
