Question

I need to enter excess/taxable scholarship income. The filled-in 1098 (under deductions) is not reporting the excess income. Where do I put report this information?

Do you know how much the excess is?

Are you the parent or the student? Is the parent  claiming the student as a dependent. Is a tuition credit being claimed?

Usually "the filled-in 1098-T (under deductions)" will i report the excess income (or tell the parent to have the student report it on his/her return).  So, the only way to enter it is adjust your entries, even if you have to use a work around.

The 1098-T is only any informational document. The numbers on it are not required to be entered onto your tax return. However receipt of a 1098-T frequently means you are either eligible for a tuition credit or deduction or possibly your student has taxable scholarship income. You claim the tuition credit, or report scholarship income, based on your own financial records, not the 1098-T.

If you claim the tuition credit, you do need to report that you got one or that you qualify for an exception (the TurboTax interview will handle this)
