Question

I never received my W-2 form. I am a full-time student who only worked for three weeks at the end of year 2022. Does it matter if I include it?

Q. Does it matter if I include it?

A. Yes. All income is reportable. If you have to file a tax return, you must report it.

Q. Do I even need to file a tax return?

A. It depends on your total income and your dependent status.

A person who cannot be claimed as a dependent must file it they have more than $12,950 of income.

A dependent must file a tax return for 2022 if he had any of the following:

  1.          Total income (wages, salaries, taxable scholarship etc.) of more than $12,950 (2022).
  2.          Unearned income (interest, dividends, capital gains, unemployment, taxable portion of 529 distribution) of more than $1150 (2022)
  3.          Unearned income over $400 (2022) and gross income of more than $1150 (2022)
  4.          Household employee income (e.g. baby sitting, lawn mowing) over $2300 ($12,950 if under age 18)
  5.          Other self employment income over $432, including money on a form 1099-NEC

Yes, you should report all income that you earned in 2022.  Have you contacted your employer for a copy of your W-2?   Do you have your old paystubs for this job?
