To clarify, is the student a dependent on your return?

Are you filing married filing separately?  If you file MFS you cannot get education credits.

You can not claim room and board that you paid for.  

You have to have your daughter's form 1098-T to claim an education credit. 

In TurboTax (TT), enter at:

Federal Taxes Tab (Personal for H&B version)

Deductions & Credits

  --Education Expenses and Scholarships
