I paid for some of my tuition out of pocket can I get a deduction on that?

Possibly if you receive a 1098-T form the school to enter into the 2020 tax return.    Note: that if you are a dependent then ONLY the taxpayer claiming you can deduct educational expenses.

Simple answer: yes. Maybe even a refundable credit. But, it depends on more details.

Are you someone else's dependent or qualify as someone elses's dependent?

How old are you? What is you class load, full time, half time or more? How is the non out of pocket paid? Loans, scholarships?  Do you have income? Is your school an "eligible institution"? Does it issue a 1098-T?
