Question

I pay my student loans that my father and I are cosigned on. I should be able to claim the interest even though my fathers name is on the tax form.

Q. If I pay my student loans that my father and I are cosigned on,  should I be able to claim the interest even though my fathers name is on the tax form?

A. Yes. In TurboTax, just treat the 1098-E as being yours.

You can claim the interest deduction, if you meet the  requirements:

  1. You actually paid the interest
  2. You are legally obligated to pay it
