Question

I qualified for $1,094 in tuition deductions, however this does not add to my federal or state refund, why is this?

When filling out the educational credits section, it says I qualify for that much, so then I click "wrap up tax breaks" and it does not add that amount to my refund.

An education credit helps with the cost of higher education by reducing the amount of tax owed on your tax return. If the credit reduces your tax to less than zero, you may get a refund. If you qualified for the American Opportunity Credit, you would be able to get money back but if your credit was less than your tax bill or you qualified for the Lifelong Learning Credit, you would not get money refunded.
