Question

I received a 1098-T form from a college that I briefly attended in 2019. My qualified tuition box and my scholarship/grant box have the same amount. Should I file this? Does it matter if I do or

So the question is:  Regardless of how your Form 1098- T was reported, did you pay any out of pocket expenses including tuition and fees, books and supplies in 2019?

If the answer is Yes, you can still file the Form 1098-T to claim an education tax benefit.  Please write back to clarify so that I can provide you with more information and instructions.

If the answer is No ( tuition amount = scholarship), you do not need to file.
