I received a Student Loan Interest Statement showing how much interest I paid in 2016. It doesn't meet the IRS threshold for reporting, can I still report it?

Yes. The threshold for reporting just means that the agency that received your payments doesn't have to send you a 1098-E if you paid less than $600.

Our instructions say, "If you don't have your 1098-E, we recommend you contact your student loan lender, or you can grab your interest amount from your year-end statement and enter that amount to get a deduction."
