The American Opportunity Tax Credit is usually worth more on your return. It can increase your refund, the tuition and fees deduction only lowers your taxable income.

If you want to change the education credit, type   letme   into the search-box and then click the  "Jump to letme" link

You don't say why you want the tuition & fees deduction (TFD) rather than the  American Opportunity credit (AOC). The AOC is much better. The usual reason is to save one of your 4 allowable AOCs for a better year.  But, the AOC is not available after receiving a BS or BA.

You can check it by typing letme in the search box in TT and it will give you the option to select LLC. Try it, if you get better results, leave it, otherwise change it back.

Type letme (no space between let & me) in the search box. When the dropdown list appears, click on letme rather than "jump to letme'. On the next drop down, click on the "jump to letme” link.
