Question

I recently joined a trade union and I am taking classes. The classes do not cost money but am I able to claim the textbook costs under the Lifetime Learning Credit?

No. Books are not a qualified expenses for the LLC, unless required to be purchased from the school.

Thank you for the response. I am employed by a company that is a part of the trade union. I am required to complete classes in an accredited program that requires me to purchase textbooks. I am filing a 1040 as an employee.

"requires me to purchase textbooks" does not qualify for the LLC.
