Question

I work as a financial analyst and I am taking the CFA Level 1 in May of 2023 and purchased study material from Kaplan. Is this deductible as an education expense?

I understand the exam cost is likely not deductible, even though it is part of my normal job function. Some help here would be great.

In most cases, the answer is no. Kaplan classes are not tax-deductible because Kaplan is not a Title IV institution and is not considered eligible under the IRS Education Deduction Guidelines.

Form 1098-T is a Tuition Statement issued by institutions whose courses are tax-deductible. Kaplan's tuition is not eligible for this tax deduction and thus Kaplan does not issue a Form 1098-T.
