Question

I worked/was a student last year. Didn't make enough for taxes but am filing because of the pandemic. If my parents claimed me, should I still click college expenses?

A dependent cannot claim educational credits, only the parent claiming the dependent can.  However, if you received a 1098-T where scholarships exceeded tuition (box 5 more than box 1) then then that is taxable to the student and goes on your tax return.

No, if your parents claim you, they would claim your expenses for an education credit on their return.

The stimulus check won't be available for you, since you are claimed as a dependent on your parent's return.

Your parent's also will not receive a stimulus check for you if you were 17 or older in 2019.

The credit may affect you on your 2020 return if you file and are not a dependent POSSIBLY, the details have not been released yet.
