I would like to know why my refund result went from a 1130 to 3479 after I put in informations from my 1098-T from my school, and other school expenses information.

It depends.

 

If your refund increased, it's because you were entitled to an education credit.  There are three types of educational credits.

  • American Opportunity Credit - Maximum credit of $2,500 and may be refundable but can only be used for the first 4 years of college while working towards a degree
  • Lifetime Learning Credit - Maximum credit of $2,000 but none of the credit is refundable
  • Tuition & Fees Deduction - Deduction of up to $4,000
