Question

If I am still in my first 4 years of college and under 24 years old, then why am I receiving the Lifetime Learning Credit and not the American Opportunity Credit?

I'm only 22, I haven't received 4 years of the American Opportunity Credit, I am in my first 4 years of college, I'm applying married filing jointly, and together we make far less than the max 180k. I'm not sure why I am being given the Lifetime Learning Credit instead of the American Opportunity Credit, and clarification regarding this would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Your age doesn't matter if you're filing married filing jointly.

If you are eligible, you have answered  something wrong, in the interview. But, a lot of people are just not eligible. See https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/AOTC

Be sure you checked half time or more.
