It depends on who you made the donation to. If it was to an individual or a non recognized charitable organization, it is it a gift and it is not deductible.
If it was tax exempt organization it would be a charitable donation that you could deduct either the $300 (per tax payer on your return) cash donation along with the standard deduction or as an itemized deduction if you are itemizing your return.
You can use the IRS Tax Exempt Organization tool to determine if the donation was made to a qualifying charitable organization.
